Together We Can Accomplish More: A Survey of Multi-Institution Consortia and System Leaders
As more colleges and universities turn to multi-institutional partnerships to boost their capabilities, the WICHE Cooperative for Educational Technologies’ (WCET) conducted a survey to benchmark the current and future state of consortia and systems in the U.S. and Canada. This report includes insights and considerations for higher education leaders interested in the opportunities multi-institutional partnerships can provide.
Key Issues Addressed
Key findings in the report include:
- Through consortias, colleges can realize economies of scale, provide services they cannot on their own, and amplify their marketing reach.
- Despite a flux (openings, closures, and transitions) in consortia system organizations, most are strengthening.
- Multi-institutional partnerships can help increase student outcomes and operational efficiencies, as well as new innovations.
- The new services added by these organizations vary according to member needs; the most common being Open Educational Resources (OER).
